Martha Moore grew up on a farm in the mountains of Southwest Virginia, where she took extension classes sponsored by the University of Virginia because no art classes were offered at her small high school. She attended Emory & Henry College in Emory Virginia, where she achieved her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and History in 1966. She worked as a high school teacher for two years, after which she went back to school, earning her MAster of Arts degree in English in 1975. All the while, Martha painted and pursued her art as time allowed, exhibiting at the Virginia Highlands Festival in Abingdon Virginia, the Southeastern Art Show in Johnson City Tennessee, and Tusculum College Arts Day in Greeneville Tennessee.

Martha moved to Shelby North Carolina in 1982, where she worked again as a teacher in the Shelby school system until June 2008, when she retired from teaching in order to pursue her art career full time. Martha paints landscapes, primarily in oil and watercolor, in what she describes as a realistic style.
