Jerry Hensley is what some would refer to as an "Outsider
Artist", which is gallery-speak for a self-taught artist.
Although he has always drawn, mostly cars, Hensley began painting
about 16 years ago after being inspired by the birth of his only
child, Joshua. Jerry painted a mural depicting Walt Disney's
Jungle Book theme on one entire wall of Josh's bedroom in acrylics.
As his son grew and took on the boyish wonder anbd interests
in cars, trucks and trains, Jerry painted several more inspired
works on Josh's bedroom wall.
Living in Western North Carolina, beautiful mountain scenes
inspired a painting on canvas of a grist mill and pond scene
in Autumn colors. A few years ago as he began vacationing with
his familky at the North Carolina Outer Banks, Jerry found beauty
he had never imagined and a new-found inspiration for his paintings.
No other subject has caught Jerry's attention quite like the
scenic beauty of the Outer Banks. "Cape Hatteras Lighthouse"
and "Bodie Island Lighthouse" are his first published
works.
