Last October, I attended a watercolor class 'on a whim' to
see if I could learn to paint. I was terrified, but little by
little, I continue to learn as I paint. My education is quite
technical, so my goal of being loose in my painting has become
my passion. I have no desire to recreate a photo, but I adore
exploring my imagination. People always ask where I get my ideas,
and I can only say that I paint totally from what I feel, not
what I see. Friends such as Chuck McLachlan and Sterling Edwards
have helped me advance, but there is no substitute for picking
up a brush and painting.
Back in May, Stephen Quiller from Colorado the area and showed
me more about 'color' than I will ever absorb, but I am most
grateful. Each painting surprises me in that his teaching seems
to be sinking in slowly but surely.
My wife Sassie, along with friends and neighbors have encouraged
me to continue painting and I must confess that at times, I stand
and paint and almost dance from the excitement of the most simple
things. How amazing that is to me, and I am grateful........
One year ago, I didn't know which end of the paintbrush to hold
and now I would hope that I could inspire and/or teach others
to paint. For me, this journey is not about being a great painter,
but it is about feeling the inner peace and happiness that we
lucky people experience as we paint.
Kevin Beck told me about how much he loves to talk about art
and I can relate so well to that feeling. I fear that I might
drive my friends crazy with my new passion for painting, yet
thankfully they continue to be supportive.
If you love art, you understand, and if you would like to better
know art and painting, I encourage you to start today. It may
well be the best thing you ever did! If you need encouragement,
drop me an email. It would be a great pleasure to talk with you
about my passion for art and painting.
